Dimensions of Diversity

The DIVERSITY CHALLENGE Magdeburg is based on the DIVERSITY CHALLENGE of the Charta der Vielfalt e. V., an initiative by employers to promote diversity in companies and institutions.

The initiative’s objectives – such as recognition, appreciation and the integration of diversity into the world of work in Germany – are to be applied to living and working conditions in the city of Magdeburg. Magdeburg aims to be a place to live, work and study that is free from prejudice. Everyone living in the city should feel valued – regardless of

  • gender and gender identity
  • migration background and nationality
  • religion and beliefs
  • disability
  • age
  • sexual orientation

Prize Categories

Ideas can be developed within one of two key areas: Creating Educational Spaces & Shaping Urban Spaces. This includes good ideas for breaking down barriers and promoting diversity. An expert jury will assess the entries. The assessment criteria are: dimensions of diversity, creativity & degree of innovation, sustainability, relevance & effectiveness, and raising awareness

Creating Educational Spaces

Knowledge is for everyone, but not everyone has access to education. In this category, you can submit concepts and ideas for educational programmes and spaces that go beyond what has been done before.

Examples....

  • Space utilisation concepts with educational programmes – how spaces can be repurposed for education
  • Formats for knowledge transfer, such as inclusive reading circles, educational walks, lectures, podcasts, (digital) tutorials, etc.

Shaping Urban Space

Magdeburg’s urban landscape offers many (public) spaces where people could meet. And yet they often remain within their own ‘bubbles’.

In this category, you can submit concepts and ideas that create or further develop new ways of bringing people together in urban settings, with the aim of fostering greater social interaction.

Here are a few examples:

  • community street parties
  • neighbourhood initiatives
  • pop-up events in shared spaces such as playgrounds or at train stations
  • concept development for club collaborations and much more...

You can find further ideas and inspiration in the Action Box of the Diversity Charter.

As a general rule, an ideas competition assumes that there is an intention to implement the ideas. The Diversity Challenge Magdeburg is designed to provide a space for you to unleash your creativity, not to restrict it! That’s why every idea counts. Even ‘smaller’ ideas can win prizes and receive support.

Prizes

One entry from each of the two categories will be awarded a prize of 500 euros (1st place). In addition, winners will receive non-monetary support in the form of knowledge transfer, networking and promotion of their idea.

Second and third place will also receive non-monetary support (knowledge transfer, networking and promotion of the idea). The winners will be announced at the end of January 2027.
